Nobukazu Takemura, Hoshi No Koe (Thrill Jockey): The second Thrill Jockey album from studious, humorous abstract-electro composer Nobukazu Takemura is a strange, sprawling affair. It touches on various sounds Tak's been experimenting with in recent years, from the click-disco pop of "Sign" to the slow-motion orchestral drips and shimmers of "In The Room-Roof-Wood" to the stuttery abstracted digi-farts of "Honey Comb." That said, the set seems at its best when the dynamics are at their most gentle, as when Takemura plays with Reich-like, gentle organ drifts on "Stairs in Stars" a moment that's rather reminiscent of his long-time collaborator Aki Tsuyuko's solo work or when he gathers long, fluent rhythmic strokes to pop-like effect on the gorgeous "Anemometer."
