Bubbly Reese Witherspoon ("Election"), as a super-cute, shallow California girl gamboling through New England's most esteemed halls of higher learning, is the sole reason to see this silly, insignificant comedy, which is very much "Clueless in Law School." Only it isn't as funny and heartfelt as "Clueless," the pastel-pop 1995 teen movie that dealt with high-school cliques, fashion victims and young love and was, in fact, a merry, modern-day adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma." And unlike "Clueless," it won't add any slang terms — "As if!" — to the American lexicon. College homecoming queen Elle (Witherspoon) is dumped by her upper-crust boyfriend, who is going to Harvard Law in the fall. He feels she's too much of a sexy babe to be a good wife for a would-be politician. But Elle is no dumb blonde. She wheedles her way into Harvard Law to win him back. Before the year's out, she's defending a murder suspect in court. As if! With Luke Wilson as Elle's mentor and Selma Blair as her rival.
