A thoughtful, serious movie about sex that is actually sexy, director Wayne Wang's latest is also about gender relations, illusion, role-playing and alienation in a technological society. It's primarily a two-person affair involving a brilliant, reclusive computer programmer (Peter Sarsgaard) and a seductive stripper/lap dancer/rock musician (Molly Parker of "Sunshine"). The cyber-nerd's company is on the verge of a big-bucks deal, but he's more interested in hiring the stripper as a weekend companion for a jaunt to Las Vegas. He's so smitten with the woman that he's ready to spend a wad of cash on her, despite her insistence on a "no intercourse" rule for the trip and her repeated warnings that any contact between the two of them is simply business for her. But "no intercourse" doesn't mean "no hot steamy orgasmic behavior." Once the fun starts in a Vegas hotel suite, emotions begin to run high on both sides. With a memorable cameo from Carla Gugino as another "dancer." | |||
