You can't blame director Ivan Reitman for trying to duplicate the success of his blockbuster action-comedy hit "Ghostbusters." But you can blame him for shooting this terribly flat and generally laugh-free script about an asteroid that crashes in the Arizona desert and poses a threat to all humanity. Y'see, a plethora of quickly-adapting alien life-forms has hitch-hiked to Earth on the rock, and they will overrun America unless a pair of hapless community-college science professors (David "X-Files" Duchovny, Orlando Jones), a foxy Center for Disease Control specialist (Julianne Moore) and a local doofus (Seann William Scott) can stop the Army from unleashing the creatures. Speaking of monsters, the imaginative computer-generated "visitors" are the only thing worth seeing in a visually explosive, otherwise flaccid enterprise. "Ghostbusters," written by Harold Ramis, was smart and hilarious. Without Ramis or someone else as witty on board, Reitman's plans for "Evolution" must've devolved. | |||
