As a cast member on the sketch-comedy TV series "Saturday Night Live," Chris Kattan does a character called Mr. Peepers, an out-of-control missing link who's just a few rungs up the evolutionary ladder from a rabid chimp. Mr. Peepers grunts and screeches; he gobbles apples so quickly that bits of the fruit spray everywhere; and he humps anyone, male or female, in grabbing distance. By comparison, the clumsy, desperate comedy "Corky Romano," starring Kattan as the simpering, clueless son of a mobster, makes Mr. Peepers seem like a work of unbound genius. Corky's crime-lord dad "Pops" Romano (the great Peter Falk!?!) is being investigated by the FBI. The family, including Corky's scuzzy brothers (Chris Penn, Peter Berg), needs someone to infiltrate the Bureau and destroy the evidence against "Pops." Since veterinarian Corky is the only Romano without a record, he's forced to impersonate an FBI agent. Hilarity doesn't ensue. With Fred Ward and Richard "Shaft" Roundtree. | |||
