The most slack thing about this teen-oriented comedy is its wit or the lack of same. A trio of smart but lazy friends (Devon Sawa, Jason Segal, Michael C. Maronna) have coasted through college by devoting their collective intellect to creative cheating. So it's too bad for them when Ethan (Jason Schwartzman of "Rushmore"), the school's most annoying geek, busts them on one of their scams and then blackmails them into helping him score with the cutest girl on campus a lovely, noble co-ed (James King of "Pearl Harbor") with a sexually adventurous roommate (Laura Prepon of TV's "That '70s Show"). But Dave (Sawa) falls for the obsessive Ethan's dream date, jeopardizing the plan. It starts strong with an intricate swindle perpetrated by its three anti-heroes, but it quickly devolves into dumbness, cheap sex jokes, bathroom humor, etc. And nobody among its male characters is likable. They're all hateful dorks that you want to see fail. With Joe Flaherty and a few surprising cameos. Not that it matters. | |||
