You may very well feel trapped while watching "Trapped," an initially promising, progressively convoluted, eventually ridiculous thriller about the abduction of a well-off suburban couple's asthmatic little girl. But you can walk out of the theater or switch off the video when something doesn't meet your standards. The actors who made the decision to appear in "Trapped," some of whom have done quality work in other movies, are trapped on film or in digital video code forever! These thespians include Kevin Bacon, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Courtney Love as the demented kidnappers, Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend as the targeted parents and Dakota Fanning as the daughter who gets snatched. Bacon is fun to watch as the kind of despicable guy who thinks he's even-tempered but is really a violent hothead; Vince is sad-sack sympathetic; and Love is properly scuzzy. The tension is tangible, but "Trapped" gets loonier by the scene until it ends in the most unlikely fender-bender in U.S. highway history. | |||
