What starts off looking like the Mexican equivalent of a comic teen sex romp/road picture is something wiser and more enduring. When made by Hollywood hacks, these films clutter up the multiplex. But Alfonso Cuarón, director of the spiffy English-language films "A Little Princess" and "Great Expectations," brings hell-bent energy, arty sound-and-vision, painful verity and depth of feeling to "Y Tu Mamá También" ("And Your Mother, Too"). Upper-crust Tenoch (Diego Luna) and working-class Julio (Gael García Bernal of "Amores Perros") are buddies whose girlfriends have gone to Europe for the summer. It's a great time for the boys to get loaded and laid before college begins in the fall, and they'd each like nothing better than bedding Luisa (the exquisite Maribel Verdú), a sexy older woman unhappily married to Tenoch's cousin. Enflamed by desire, Tenoch and Julio convince Luisa to motor with them from Mexico City to a distant, mystical beach. The trip brings life-changing realizations and revelations for all. | |||
