"Final Destination 2" is not only a sequel (seldom a decent bet), it's the sequel to a horror movie (implying little worth), and the acting isn't much to see. But, like its predecessor, "FD2" is good genre fare that goes beyond the usual psycho-slasher, boogie-man, organ-eater claptrap to generate high-tension jolts and lots of nervous laughs. With the latest in splatter make-up and prosthetics, it's as gory as any Freddy or Jason freak show. The difference is the villain, no less than Death itself, and the way carnage is visited upon the victims. In "Final Destination," a group of attractive young people cheat death by exiting a doomed airplane flight before takeoff. Death, an unseen malevolent force, chases down the spared ones to assure their preordained demise. Kimberly (A.J. Cook) of "FD2" foresees a grisly multi-car accident, blocks the on-ramp, saves a bunch of lives, then has to stop Death's design. The means Death uses are intricate and Rube Goldberg-ian, so a faulty bubbler in a dentist-office fish tank triggers a series of interrelated occurrences to bring about a morbid end. Co-starring Ali Larter and Tony Todd of "Final Destination." | |||
