An uneven combo plate is the only dish on the menu in the predicable "You Got Served." The dance sequences in the hip-hop-driven pic are nimble, percolating and slick, but what passes for plot is some wack, tired-ass shizznit. Not that any of that matters in a film of this ilk. Members of the now-defunct B-boy-band B2K are prominently featured in "You Got Served," and their young female fans won't care about minor things like dialogue or acting when they're screaming for their favorites in the group. Clean-cut Elgin (Marques Houston of IMX) and braid-headed David (Omari Grandberry, AKA Omarion of B2K) are best friends and de facto leaders of the top street-dance crew in South Central L.A. These inner-city heroes win every underground dance-off refereed by righteous ol' dude Mr. Rad (Steve Harvey) until they're challenged by an arrogant pack of suburban rich kids with a large sum on the line. To raise their half of the pot, Elgin and David must work one more big job at their part-time gig as bag men for a local thug. Trouble is inevitable. The friends also fall out over David's romantic interest in Elgin's little sister. All is nearly lost until MTV throws a big-bucks dance competition. An appearance in the next Lil' Kim video is part of the grand prize. By the time Kim shows, we surely know who and what is being served. | |||
