	After The Sunset
	Brett Ratner Pierce Brosnan, Woody Harrelson, Salma Hayek, Don Cheadle, Naomie Harris 2004		As a caper film crossed with a romantic comedy, "To Catch a Thief" has few peers. And "After the Sunset" is no "To Catch a Thief," even if the former has characters that reference the latter, a classic Hitchcock film starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Needless to say, Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek, co-stars of the forced and far too familiar "After the Sunset," are no Grant and Kelly. Brosnan is master thief Max Burdett; Hayek is Max's accomplice and lover Lola. After humiliating FBI agent Stan Lloyd (a floundering Woody Harrelson) during their final jewel heist, the couple retired to the Bahamas. Their liaison is in the doldrums when they get an unexpected visit from their old nemesis. Stan informs them that a supremely valuable diamond is part of an exhibition on a cruise ship that will soon be coming into the local harbor. The agent believes the prize will be too much for Max to resist, and is waiting for the suspect to make a move. Lola wants Max to stay retired and marry her. A mob kingpin (Don Cheadle) wants Max to help him grab the gem. A foxy Bahaman lady cop (Naomie Harris) wants to solve a major case like a high-profile robbery to earn a promotion. The pot boils. For all that, there's no sense of danger, tension is minimal, and the ongoing hijinks between the thieves and Stan are halfhearted. Director Brett Ratner would've been better off doing another "Rush Hour" with Jackie Chan instead of this.
